The silver lining about the CAT mess is that it exposes lack of management skills in the IIMs across domains equally – strategy, operations, finance, marketing and systems.
The story out in the news is not even tip of the “dirtberg”. Talk to actual applicants and one hears horror stories of mismanagement in the centers, repeating questions, USB jump drives being used to copy papers, lot’s of students missing out the exam.
For the sake of the 1000s who worked hard and aspire to get into IIMs – I hope they will re-conduct the exam clean and give them a fair chance. But, at a more philosophical level it’s worth recognising that IIM MBA is not a real goal and at best one step in a thousand mile journey.
